Notice the salesmans life style---old pickup truck, or a new one each year? Does he work 24/7, or did he just get back from a vacation?
A pair of dirty hands, or a lot of shinny things on his hands, and maybe a cell phone taped to his ear to boot?
Does his wife work out of the house, or a full time party gall / shopper?
There are several more smart remarks, but I can't think of them right now. They do make you think a little however, and not always accurate, (or even nice).
