First thing you want to check is the wiring harness plug at the resistor under the dash if the plug is good check the plug at the switch. Most likely with having to smack it I would say it is in the switch which is only serviced with the controlhead.If it works on high and no other speed it would be the resistor, we see very few that have a problem with the motor, if there is a problem with the motor it would be high resistance.
