02 Dodge 1500

My kid took his truck into the local service station. The fan for the heater doesnt always work and he has to smack the dash to get it to go.Most times it works sometimes it doesnt.Mechanic said he couldnt find anything wrong, kid told him it has to be a loose wire.Mechanic said there isnt any wires its all magnets. How does that work?$100 and no fix.

very likely the motor is bad . when you hit the dash it jars the motor and it takes to working. probably is a permanent magnet motor but still has to have a power and ground wire.

dont know about the new dodge but i had a 66 ford that did that, i smacked the dash [ steel] until it had a dent in it, when i finally took the heater motor out the wire terminal that attached to the heater motor was loose on the wire, wish i had just fixed it first

First thing you want to check is the wiring harness plug at the resistor under the dash if the plug is good check the plug at the switch. Most likely with having to smack it I would say it is in the switch which is only serviced with the controlhead. If it works on high and no other speed it would be the resistor, we see very few that have a problem with the motor, if there is a problem with the motor it would be high resistance.

The wifes 02 caravan did the same thing, the resistor we put in new last year had shorted and caused the resistor connector to melt at the plugin. New resistor and a little TLC at the plug fixed the problem.
