My "02 blazer has a similar problem - always reads high - like never gets below 3/4 of a tank. I"ve been doing the milage thing - after 22250 miles, I start looking for the nearest gas station.. That leaves me with some reserve.
I"m told the repair is to replace the fuel pump which is in the tank. Gas level sending unit is part of the electric fuel pump unit. Replaced one on son"s Blazer for another problem, and it was no picnic. Don"t know if I can scavenge parts off son"s old pump to fix mine, but the thought of pulling the fuel tank keeps that idea on hold. Wholesale cost of this pump (friend in the business) was $300.
You might put in a tank or two of gasoline/ethanol mix, if your car will tolerate it. Fixed my guage for a few weeks.
