In my opinion, the reason the education question went down in flames, is it does no good to say "spend way more on this" when there is no provision from where that new money comes from!!
Are you really going to get yourself a new pickup by making a household rule to spend "more than the neighbor" on vehicles - when you are doing good to keep food in the pantry and make no mention of what you are going to do to earn the extra money???
