I got out as a E-5 in '68. Didn't go to any Marine Corps Balls on the 10th. I always wondered what they talked about. Maybe Smedley Butler and Sgt York. I think you had to wear Dress Blues or Mess Gear. If the USMC had given me a set, maybe I would have gone. You had to buy those uniforms unless you were assigned to an embassy, band, or a carrier. I didn't qualify for any as I had a three year enlistment. On the whole, I think it was just a dinner gathering for future lifers.
