This doesn't really count in number of years but I quit 5 years ago after 12 years of smoking and it was no fun. The patch worked for me the second time around, and like you, after lunch and with coffee were the worst. Also since my drive to work is about 45 minutes there were alot of cigarettes smoked during that drive so when I quit if I rolled the window down a little bit and could hear the wind I wanted one then too. Good luck, it's a tough row to hoe but it can be done
