Not recommended by manufacturer but done by unknown (lot) number of shooters -10 grains of 3F or sometimes 4F loaded first (a derringer flask holds about right amount) then the 30 to 50 grain pellets or 2, then the 350 grain Buffalo or Minie or REAL slug in .50 calibers. This seems to help some people in slightly damp weather have a venison roast. Mix of black powder starter and smokeless layer was old target shooting practice late 1800s to 1920s. Some of civil war re-enacters use it also for demonstrations. I know one couple that used 4F in revolvers to make sure of ignition and used the light charge 4F first in .58 Enfield replica. Pyrodex needs mag caps or a little help at times. Product liability laws are a reason for not recommending mix and don"t leave arm loaded and bounced around to mix layers- erratic ignition is possible then. I"m not recommending this-Legal Disclaimer- just noting that the use of a black powder priming charge is known to be used at times. RN.
