I used to think the same way until I missed a record whitetail because the wally world scope that I had on my BAR came apart internaly....friend of mine killed it when I couldn't shoot ...I use mostly 6.5X20 Leupolds on my varmint rifles & 4X14 Leupold on the hog & deer guns...my sniper M1A has a rangefinder Nightforce on it that has worked out very well...also Leupold will send you a new scope if one of theirs fail...dropped my mountain rifle off a 100ft. cliff & broke it completely in two pieces & Leupold replaced it free except for shipping....if your glass doesn't cost as much or more than your gun then you are asking for trouble...wait until you miss something important & then you will change your mind...JMHO...take care ...Kent
