so much for a lifetime warranty from redfield scopes, just returned a 3x9 and was informed that they would not honor the warranty, but would allow a 20 to 40 dollar trade in for another redfield, YEA RIGHT,..i returned a burris and they just gave me another new scope,..so for those of you who use a lot of that kind of hardware beware of redfield,..they'll never sell me another,..i carry something on the tractor..that should fit here now,....

I'm curious, what was the age of the scope? Redfield has been owned by a couple of different companies and is now owned by Leopold (spelling?). I know, a lifetime warranty should mean lifetime, but if no one had bought them when they had problems, I guess you wouldn't get anything at all.

Iron Sight, Inc. (918) 445-2001.

From the REDFIELD web sight....

REDFIELD PRODUCTS MADE BEFORE 2010
When Leupold & Stevens, Inc.® purchased Redfield in April 2008, it did not acquire the capability to repair Redfield products manufactured prior to this purchase. The repair tooling and parts were purchased years ago by other repair services. Leupold & Stevens, Inc. will service its manufactured Redfield product (manufactured from 2010 forward) in accordance with its published warranty.

At this time, should a non-Leupold & Stevens, Inc. Redfield product require service, we suggest contacting Iron Sight, Inc. (918) 445-2001. This contact is provided for information purposes only, as Iron Sight Inc. is not affiliated with Leupold & Stevens Inc. They should be contacted directly for all information regarding repair, service and associated charges.
old redfield scopes

Iron Sight is sometimes back logged --- But they do quality work!!!!
Give them a try --- even though the lifetime warranty fizzled --to me the old scopes are worth fixing most of the time.

How much was that Redfield? I bought new Nikon scope last year.....$180. Very nice. If your Redfield was under $100 then it is cheap. I bought a nice and cheap scope for my son's pump air soft gun. The scope costs more then the gun....$40 for the scope and the gun I think was $30.

A guy at my local gun range told me that Barska (spelling is wrong I think) is the best scope for the money. I am likely going to buy a high end scope for my AR.....$300-400 3x14x50mm objective. I dont know which brand I will pick yet. (I want the scope to also be able to easily see the holes I am putting on the paper at 100yards.

Appreciate the info, dlplost.

I think a similar thing happened with the old Weaver scopes. - A former employee bought up all the stuff to fix 'em.

The original Redfield company went out of business in 1998. The Redfield brand has since bounced around from one company to another until it was recently picked up by Leupold. I think it is generous of Leupold to offer you credit for a scope made by another company.

By all accounts, the Leupold-made Redfields are a very good product, made in the USA. About half the price of an equivalent Leupold.

The link below will take you to a site that gives the history of Redfield, as well as a few other brands that have bounced around like Weaver.
Scope brands

ou spelled it right. I have a Barska Point Black I really like. It is not real friendly toward my glasses though, I have double vision and the prizm in my glasses lens really messes me up. Have to take them off to shoot.

I really prefer Leupold over most scopes in the mid to high price range. I have had them on various calibers that many folks consider to be VERY hard recoilers. I've never yet (knock on the noodle) broken one but did loose a turret cap once. When I sent a $10 check to cover the lost one and a spare cap, I had two new caps AND my uncashed check within five business days.
For repeatability, clarity, definition, light transmission and durability, Leupold is hard to beat.
One thing we did learn this past year is that their products with Gold rings are still USA made while those with the pea green rings are "Imported." Probably from china. . .

$1200 for a scope to hunt deer 3 or 4 days a year? I think not. I shoot 3 or 4 every year with one I paid less than $100 for, thank you very much.

I used to think the same way until I missed a record whitetail because the wally world scope that I had on my BAR came apart internaly....friend of mine killed it when I couldn't shoot ...I use mostly 6.5X20 Leupolds on my varmint rifles & 4X14 Leupold on the hog & deer guns...my sniper M1A has a rangefinder Nightforce on it that has worked out very well...also Leupold will send you a new scope if one of theirs fail...dropped my mountain rifle off a 100ft. cliff & broke it completely in two pieces & Leupold replaced it free except for shipping....if your glass doesn't cost as much or more than your gun then you are asking for trouble...wait until you miss something important & then you will change your mind...JMHO...take care ...Kent
