I use peanut butter with good success. Easy to handle and it sticks to the trigger pan nicely.
I take a plastic sandwich bag and smear in a spoonful. I then squeeze it to one bottom corner and snip the end to allow it to ooze out like a pastry bag. Nice and neat, no contamination in the jar.
I keep them out of my boat in the winter in my barn by trapping and mothballs. I buy good quality traps and they get the job done.
