OT: Best Mice Bait

So I do live within the city limits of our little town and have been here for 6 years now, never having any mice issues, even though we live 3 city blocks from a 80 acre field and the elevator. Then within a period of a month, we have had 4 in our garage, and I caught two trying to get into the house, and the cat brings me two prizes for a pat on the head.

I can"t figure out where they are coming from until last night. I ask my neighbor who has let their yard go since they got season tickets to the local minor league baseball club. So mowing only happens once every two weeks and no clean up in the yard.

He tells me they have had mice problems for the last 4 years. They get into all their bird seed and squirrel corn they keep in their little plastic out building in their fenced in yard. Me being the nice neighbor asks if I can come help clean up their mess because I don"t want the mice in my yard, house, or garage. I had to say something nice or else they would have heard how P-O"d I really am that they willing allow this to happen.

So what is the best bait you all have experienced to take care of the issue? I know the first thing is to take care of the food source then replace it with the bait. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I use peanut butter with good success. Easy to handle and it sticks to the trigger pan nicely.

I take a plastic sandwich bag and smear in a spoonful. I then squeeze it to one bottom corner and snip the end to allow it to ooze out like a pastry bag. Nice and neat, no contamination in the jar.

I keep them out of my boat in the winter in my barn by trapping and mothballs. I buy good quality traps and they get the job done.

Good luck

Hi Aaron, I am a real fan of the galvanized box
live traps. When I owned an implement business we
kept 3 busy. Pull a combine in the shop the day
after it had been used and lots of mice and(rats)
would come out. They enter box out of curosity but
a little peanut butter is a treat. Glue traps are
good, but it may take lots of them. A good cat is
excellent. But cleanliness is no incentive for a
mouse so that is best.Chuck

this post reminds me why i'll never live in town again...got all kinda junk in my yard and aint mowed since gas went over 2 bux a gallon...no mice...lotsa cats tho.
oh the audacity of your neighbor to have enuff of a life to ONLY mow every other week.

Best way of stopping or at least slowing the problem down is a cat or 2. No bait will do much if they have all the food they want like it seems you have the problem of because of the guy next door.

In my opinion, you cannot beat glue traps. I put four glue traps in my hunting cabin last night and had the little trouble maker this morning. I just love 'em!!!!!!

The local mice didn't really like Jaguar. Have much better success with One-Bite. They really prefered the sweet corn stuff but haven't seen it the last couple of years.

Ever try the pop can strung on a wire in a five gallon bucket? If you can check them every few days to avoid the bad smell. The cost is nothing, and it will hold probably a hundred if needed.

Poision lets them stink in the walls etc. If you have out buildings, plain old coke a cola in jar lids will kill them. This is probably a mean death if you kinda like mice and all.
