I bought a small 2200 watt generator from a friend, brand new in the box. He had bought it from ALDI's (German owned grocery store) and never used it. I went to use it the first time and noticed that it had a gas leak where the line comes out of the tank. Thinking it was just a loose connection, I tried to tighten the nut on the line. I only turned it a quarter of a turn and it CRUMBLED!! It was made of some kind of really weak pot metal. I happened to have a nut that fit to replace it, and it's worked well since. Having said that, I have some woodworking machinery made in China (Grizzly Brand, American owned), and it is top quality stuff, and at a good price. So it basically depends on the specs called for by the the American companies that sell the stuff. Some generic stuff is trash. But some of the stuff made in China for reputable companies are very high quality.
