Generators and pumps made in china questions opinions?

My question is the pumps and generators made in China etc. Some have a small diesel (similar to yanmar) are these units worthwile for the money? There was a post on the china honda gas engine copy and most were pleased. I am skeptical as to weather the gereator head is any good. Some of the outfits that sell them stock parts and service them. They told me one company makes them and brands them for over 50 names.
 
I bought a small 2200 watt generator from a friend, brand new in the box. He had bought it from ALDI's (German owned grocery store) and never used it. I went to use it the first time and noticed that it had a gas leak where the line comes out of the tank. Thinking it was just a loose connection, I tried to tighten the nut on the line. I only turned it a quarter of a turn and it CRUMBLED!! It was made of some kind of really weak pot metal. I happened to have a nut that fit to replace it, and it's worked well since.
Having said that, I have some woodworking machinery made in China (Grizzly Brand, American owned), and it is top quality stuff, and at a good price.
So it basically depends on the specs called for by the the American companies that sell the stuff. Some generic stuff is trash. But some of the stuff made in China for reputable companies are very high quality.
 
Aldi stores sell stuff like that in the States too?
You get what you pay for, but I just can't justify paying so much money for something that I'll use a few times a year. Aside from a skil saw, milwaukee disc grinder, stihl chain saw and brush cutter, and some mechanics hand tools, things are pretty yellow around the place I guess.
Generator is from aldi and a semp I use to transfer water is imported and work fine. Motor driven water pump I borrowed was imported and worked fine also. Getting parts may be another story.
