The CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Office of the Actuary) report estimates that as a result of the newly enacted health care reform bill, U.S. health care expenditures will increase by $311 billion during the 2010 to 2019 period. That increase is primarily due to (1) greater utilization of health care services by newly covered individuals, (2) lower reimbursement rates paid to providers for individuals who become covered by Medicaid and (3) lower payments and payment updates for Medicare services.
Congressional Budget Office estimates released Tuesday predict the health care overhaul will likely cost about $115 billion more in discretionary spending over ten years than the original cost projections.
The additional spending — if approved over the years by Congress — would bring the total estimated cost of the overhaul to over $1 trillion.
Lost in the all the shuffle you will notice no one was claiming the "health care bill" would make health care mroe affordable.
