I never used any of that kind of stuff until....I have a 1994 volvo 850 wagon. I bought it used. It started using oil soon after we bought it (it wasn't leaking). It would use maybe a quart every 500 to 1,000 miles ( I forget exactly, but it was alot). I read on this site on day one of these debates....you know the snake oil thing....I thought what the heck I'll try some sea foam in the next oil change. I didn't expect anything to change. Anyhow I put it in when I changed the engine oil and I swear it stopped using oil. My son has been driving the car for about 17 months and we haven't added any oil between oil changes....no lie. p.s. the engine still ticks like crazy
