MMO or Sea Foam as gas treatment, you're thoughts.

I've had an absolutely trustworthy mechanic tell me to put MMO in the gas of my old tractors and/or vehicles. Yet another trustworthy mechanic, who's been doing some overhaul work on my tractors, say's not to use MMO. So I've decided I'll go with the majority rule. Thanks for any input. Kevin

when i have gasoline delivered, i toss a gallon of mmo in the 300 gallon tank and a jug of stabil. dunno if it helps, but it doent hurt either. one side benefit, the mmo gives the gasoline a rose color, its real easy to see the fuel in the sediment bowl !!!

I never used any of that kind of stuff until....I have a 1994 volvo 850 wagon. I bought it used. It started using oil soon after we bought it (it wasn't leaking). It would use maybe a quart every 500 to 1,000 miles ( I forget exactly, but it was alot). I read on this site on day one of these debates....you know the snake oil thing....I thought what the heck I'll try some sea foam in the next oil change. I didn't expect anything to change. Anyhow I put it in when I changed the engine oil and I swear it stopped using oil. My son has been driving the car for about 17 months and we haven't added any oil between oil changes....no lie. p.s. the engine still ticks like crazy

Never used MMO but have used both sta-bil and sea foam. Have had gas go bad with sta-bil but never with sea foam and gas is good after 3-4 years. Probably should use aviation gas and not chance it, but would be quite an effort to get.

My experience also. Sea Foam goes in every tank when equipment will not be used for a while.

Sea Foam is still a good product but since Sta-Bil was bought out by another company (Gold Star I think) it is nothing but crap. I gotta go

I"ve used Seafoam before putting equipment up for the winter and never had a problem starting anything right up come sumertime. I"ve also used it in an old forklift to give a boost to gas that was close to 8 years old. It burned it but man what a stink..... Never tried MMO so I can"t speak for it or against it but I know the Seafoam works.

Well, they're quite different products, although it's fair to call them both snake oil. Sea Foam is a solvent, Marvel Mystery Oil is a lubricant.

I've tried Sea Foam to clear the gunk out of a gummed-up carb. It didn't seem to help, although some folks claim it works wonders. I always end up tearing down the carb.

Now I religiously add a bit of MMO to each five gallons of gas I buy, and I use that gas in my tractor, lawn tractor, generator, lawn mower, etc. I really believe it helps prevent valves from sticking when an engine sits without running. Of course that's just my opinion. I suppose a dab of motor oil in the gas would work just as well.

I put a small amount of MMO in my 640 Ford tractor. The gas shut off valve got so hard to open I had to use a big screwdriver to open the valve.it took a full year before I could oppen the valve with my fingers. Now the valve is free but leakes. The MMO attacked the O ring.Keep gas treatments out of your gas tanks.MMO has a lot of solvents in it.

We used to have an International w-9 gas tractor. It burnt valves 3 years in a row - started adding diesel ( about a gallon) each tankful of gas. Never burnt another valve - Old wives tale - Maybe - but it worked for us.

Figuring that Sea Foam is made from 40-60% baby oil.25-35% Colman lantern fuel. And 10-20% drug store rubbing alcohol or fuel injection gas line antifreeze.
Purchase some plain simple gasline antifreeze if you want to pour a miracle into your vehicle.

Some people swear by Sea Foam but I really don't know if they know what they're talking about. My one and only experience with it is in the 10 year-old 5HP B&S transfer pump on the water wagon. Summer of 08 it started running lean so out of desperation I dumped in some Sea Foam. It straightened out and ran fine for the rest of the season. Summer of 09, same thing, ran lean, dumped in Sea foam and it straightened out. This summer it acted up again only Sea foam did not cure the problem. The B&S was using oil so I bought a new pump. None of my other old engines has ever gummed up so I haven't used additives for anything other than this one engine. Jim

Is a wonderful product in the gas tank ,............. ALSO ,, The Label Also suggests to add to engine oil , to clean filthy engines , IT WILL do That , However , V SIc Celebrity , spun a rod bearing with only 165Thou miles ,, My guess is the cleaned out gunk went thru oil pump and stabbed a wad behind a bearing and cupped it over ,,, Wisht I would had used a qt. of ATF fluid and done a slow clean ,,..

I put seafoam in my BS generator 2 years ago....started right up this year when a friend wanted to use it. In my opinion it is better than Stabil...

Me I say neither one I use ATF cost about 1/3 of what MMO cost and does the same thing. MMO is a top cylinder lube if used in the gas and ATF will do the exact same thing. Seafoam on the other hand does the same thing HEET does so again I use heet and save my $$$

AW, heck, use a LUCAS product and help support their stadium!

Had a lifter stuck on a Subaru. Placed MMO in the oil and stopped banging. Debate on length of time MMO oil left in the motor goes on. Quiets down a motor for the finial sale.

Put the recommended dosage (4 ounces in 10 gallons, if memory serves) of MMO in every can of "tractor gas" that comes to the house. Have seen a big difference in the amount of fuel line problems in my old tractors and other engines that don't get run a lot. Not a big believer in most "miracle in a can" treatments, but have had good luck over the years with MMO.

I am a big fan of Mercury Marine's fuel additives. Yes the boat engine manufacture. Their product Quickleen is a fuel system cleaner that is very effective in carb. and EFI engines. Read the instructions it is concentrated. Only need to use it occasionally. With every fill up I like to use their Fuel Stabilzer and Treatment. I have had fuel last 15 months using Mercury's stabilzer. Again read the instructions they have different concentration levels. Availible at dealers and Fleet Farm maybe Wally World but haven't checked. What ever you decide to use search the internet for the products MSDS sheet. In it you will find the main chemicals and approximate amounts. I like to stay away from alcohols, and distilates they do not help they are simply "fillers". Mercury has made great attempts to remove alcohol from their products.

Used Sea Foam with no noticeable results. Maybe its supposed to be like Gumout only stronger? I still trust Gumout and used it years ago to clean carbs. You could see it work at removing gum and varnish. The current batch may be different.

(quoted from post at 06:52:53 07/29/10) Cant understand why you would put naptha or iso alcohol in engine oil.

It's the gasoline magic cure that has pale oil/mineral oil, coleman lantern fuel and iso alcohol gas line antifreeze in it.
