Is there a difference in air volume required on a diesel and a gas burner when both have the same cubic inches? I don't see how there can be since the air draw comes from the piston going down on the intake stroke and compression shoulden't be a factor, but a friend of mine swears a diesel pulls in more air.
The reason I'm asking is I've been thinking about converting my Ford 800 diesel(172) to a paper filter system. The 2.8 GM's use a roughly 4x4 filter that I think would work in a similar sized airbox as the old oil bath that's rusted away. I realize the filter would have to be blown out regularly but all I do with the Ford is gardening and a little blade work so I'm not worried too much about that.
