I think that makes sense but if I understand correctly that would require a large hole and a lot fill dirt.
The 2x4's are attached on the bottom sides of the post perpendicular to the post as it stands in the hole and also perpendicular to the fence line, correct? A second set, if used, would be 2' up the post at 45 degree angles to the post. How deep does the post then have to be set? I can auger 4' down but to get the boards in the hole would have to be roughly 3' long as well.
I suppose I could auger a series of holes in a line and dig out in between them by hand.
