Once when I was on the road on the job, I stopped in the Walmart store in York, Nebraska for something or other. My purchase was less than $10, and I gave the clerk a $20 bill. She put the bill in the proper slot, and then gave me change for a $10 bill. I tried to argue with her, but since she'd already filed the $20, it was my word against hers.
When I got home, I emailed Walmart Customer Service in Arkansas. From their end in Arkansas, they were able to determine that that particular clerk's register had been $10 long when she checked out. This was all within a day. A couple of days later, I got a Walmart gift card for $20 in the mail.
Good customer service, but the incident should never have happened in the first place. Most clerks give change BEFORE they put your bill in the drawer. Never did figure out if that clerk was intentionally trying to pull something or if she was just stupid.
