Gas should never get to the silicone since it is on the out side of the tank not inside of it. It is there more or less to seal the rubber lines going in so water will not get in but the lines them self being a tad bigger then the holes should seal the gas so it in turn does not get to the silicone at least in theory it should work that way I hope
