I don't know if its procrastination or not, but I should've been checking and tightening the bolts on the rims of the AC-B that gets used to mow around the house because my sister drove right out of the rims the other day. Didn't harm anything, but just the same. I have a sister that lost her job due to the economy, and you ALWAYS take care of famaily, and none of them will ever go without a roof over their heads, NEVER, so she lives at my place just like my family did during the depression long before I was born.

She called me and asked if she could mow around the house, knows how to fire up and operate most of my tractors, and the B is small, so sure, climb on the B and forget her troubles while she's on the B. I got no problem with that. Kind of a mental wellness thing from my perspective cause you just turn, turn, turn and stuff, not think so much about problems or anything else while your turning and stuff. I got in about midnight Friday night and sat down to dinner, and as I was taking my first bite she told me the B was setting up near the road and tried to describe what had happened as best she could. I wasn't happy, but didn't get mad, and finished eating. She was scared I'd be mad, but I wasn't and had no right to be if I had. I grabbed a flashlight and went out there, and sure enough...rim and tire was off. I joked with her that she gave a whole new meaning to driving the wheels off of something, and then I went into the barn, fired up the 4520 and went out there and picked that B up and carried it into the barn. It could've sat out there until morning, but I guess that procrastinating is what got her there in the first place. Saturday morning, went out and remounted that tire and rim, unmounted and remounted the other, greased her up, changed the oil in the engine and trans, cleaned the plugs and magneto cap and rotor and stuff...and that little B is paying for her room and board in the barn again just like she always has.

The only thing that bothered me is that my sister thought that I'd be mad at her for something that I caused. Well, once she gets better on her mechanical workings on things, she'll be able to figure out what is or isn't her fault, and that was clearly my fault. Never ever hold back on knowledge, safety, or truth especially with family.

Mark

Today's Featured Article - Third Brush Generators - by Chris Pratt. While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point ... [Read Article]
