procrastination.......

Had frt fenders for my tractor hanging on the wall in the barn waiting on a rountuit for over a year, moved them out of the way so I could hang another procrastination project in their place, someone on here sent me mounting bolts that I misplaced, found the bolts a few weeks ago. Making room for the last few bales of hay yesterday and found the two fenders. Two fenders, 4 bolts, and 15 minutes later, I's gots frt fenders on my tractor. Sure reinstalling the frt loader and sickle mower will be just as quick in relation. Maybe i'll talk myself into it.

I think that's my middle name!! Staying focused on the task seems to be the problem. I can be going to do one thing, something else comes into my mind and I forget all about the first thing. My lawnmower is in the shop because I put off bringing it in; couple inches of rain sure goofs them up. In the garden, I finally pounded short pieces of PVC into the ground to stand my hoes, rakes, etc. in because I kept getting distracted and laid them down. Now I force myself to put them back.

I don't know if its procrastination or not, but I should've been checking and tightening the bolts on the rims of the AC-B that gets used to mow around the house because my sister drove right out of the rims the other day. Didn't harm anything, but just the same. I have a sister that lost her job due to the economy, and you ALWAYS take care of famaily, and none of them will ever go without a roof over their heads, NEVER, so she lives at my place just like my family did during the depression long before I was born.

She called me and asked if she could mow around the house, knows how to fire up and operate most of my tractors, and the B is small, so sure, climb on the B and forget her troubles while she's on the B. I got no problem with that. Kind of a mental wellness thing from my perspective cause you just turn, turn, turn and stuff, not think so much about problems or anything else while your turning and stuff. I got in about midnight Friday night and sat down to dinner, and as I was taking my first bite she told me the B was setting up near the road and tried to describe what had happened as best she could. I wasn't happy, but didn't get mad, and finished eating. She was scared I'd be mad, but I wasn't and had no right to be if I had. I grabbed a flashlight and went out there, and sure enough...rim and tire was off. I joked with her that she gave a whole new meaning to driving the wheels off of something, and then I went into the barn, fired up the 4520 and went out there and picked that B up and carried it into the barn. It could've sat out there until morning, but I guess that procrastinating is what got her there in the first place. Saturday morning, went out and remounted that tire and rim, unmounted and remounted the other, greased her up, changed the oil in the engine and trans, cleaned the plugs and magneto cap and rotor and stuff...and that little B is paying for her room and board in the barn again just like she always has.

The only thing that bothered me is that my sister thought that I'd be mad at her for something that I caused. Well, once she gets better on her mechanical workings on things, she'll be able to figure out what is or isn't her fault, and that was clearly my fault. Never ever hold back on knowledge, safety, or truth especially with family.

Mine's a little more involved... Bought a used well drilling rig when I needed a well for the new house. Figured I'd keep it until I drilled another well or two, but it sat. A decade later, I started evicting the rodents, thinking I'd use it and send it to a new home.

Didn't happen. So this week I bought an old windmill. It won't do much without a well under it and it's too large to ignore. Real interesting moving an assembled tower. Pretty sure it'll motivate me. Plus, I want a fish pond. I'll find out how much wind I have here on the mountain. Might be enough to raise trout.

Can't we talk about this tomorrow? LOL :>) Now I know what that disease is called, is there a cure for it? I've got it too! Mike

Well...let's see. I have a 450D and a 350U D that I drug from Indiana 5 years ago to restore. Both ran at the time. Got 4 new tires on the 450D...but working 14 hrs a day...but I hope to get to them. Got a Green 50...same way...4 new tires and rims...but I plan on getting to it after the 450D. Got 2 running and 7 300U to play with. One locked up, one looks like a metal claw tried to eat it.
Oh, got a 7K lb pintle hook trailer I plan to rewire and use...but the goose neck is fine for now. Did I mention the 153 engine in the hot rod Super A?????

Mark. Your one fine gentleman. Family always COMES FIRST.I Lost my daughter in Dec, (cancer) and I can tell ya I miss her badly. She to could go on the 706 and enjoyed it. Thanks for the post. You restore my faith in the human race. LOU

Several years ago we bought a non-running JD B because it had original JD round spokes on the back. James did take it partially apart and did get the engine un-stuck. But that's as far as we got.

We've got all the parts to get it running again, just don't have the time. Maybe next weekend.

Wonderful story!

While James does the maintenance and work on the tractors, he is always showing me how to do things so if need be, I can do it myself.

In the garage at home sits a WD-45 Allis awaiting restoration and for the motor to get put back in after the restoration. its been apart for almost 3 years now but me and dad work different schedules so neither of us have time to work on it. We used to have a 630 case. it was always tore apart because it kept taking out #1 rod bearing. usually took about 2 years to fix but there again we always have hay to put up or crops to put in plus work so your not the only one :)

Here you go; no more excuses.

Lou, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Honest to God I am. One has to believe that she's in a much better place smiling with you and yours. There will be times when for no reason, you will feel something brush against your face, your daughter's hand, or maybe hear a ringing in your ear, your daughter speaking to you and it will come out of nowhere when you don't expect it. When that happens, close your eyes a moment and think WITH her, "Remember the time...", and smile. She's still with you and yours through your heart. I know it aint the same, but she will brush her warm hand against your cheek when you aren't expecting it, just like "Papa...".

Every now and then I get a warm brush against my cheek and hear a ringing in my ear and for decades its brought a smile to my face, and pray not as often as I should that it never stops. She sure is special, and I hope to see and be with her again one day.

May God always bless your daughter's soul, and you and yours.

Nancy, I've been watching you and your husband post for years. Seems to me that you take on a whole lot of things and I'm proud of you. There's a photo above about cutting hay, and a woman, I think maybe on a Farmall A by its size without studing the photo so hard. Thats what I like to see, the family pitching in where one can. I've got no problem with that. Just be careful, and much good luck and success, always.

I keep telling myself I need to get out to my buddy's farm and start doing more work on my tractor that is sitting out there. While I write this I have an essay for my college class that I should be working on.....

Yes Sir, she did. Monday. She was out there with me remounting the tires and servicing it, so so that makes her the keeper of more odd knowledge.

as they always say... hard work and dedication pay off in the long run but procrastination pays off NOW!!! ...D
