If you can, park the mower on a level cement floor and start measuring the distance from the deck to the floor all the way around. As has been suggested, a deck can get bent, one side may be lower than the other and ..there is a spring that needs to be in place that hooks on..usually the left rear to the deck, it keeps the deck level when you turn right otherwise you scalp the turn. I've had to play with mine several times, even had a slightly bent blade that caused ridges and scalping on turns. You will learn a lot when you park it on a cement floor.
