Back in the 1940's dad picked corn with an Hart-Parr 18-28 pulling some kind of old side elevator corn picker,can't remember what brand. Any way he carried a 16 Ga. shot gun on the Hart-Parr in a rifle saddle scabbard he got some where and we had many pheasant based meals during corn picking times. One time he got two cock pheasants who were fighting in front of the tractor and only used one shot to do it with. Even when he got old he would love to tell any one willing to listen how one time he killed two cock pheasants with one shot from his 16 Ga, shot gun.
