The brother of a guy I work with shoots deer right from his combine, opens the door- aims, fires. He owns a few hundred acres. He even does it with the combine chugging along working too. (so I am told) My opinion is that if its your land and a cop didnt see it then it is legal. (rented land would be different)
As far as a spot to put the gun......Take your pick. Use a clip on the top of the tractor, or have a stand right next to you with the gun clipped into an upright rack.
