The solenoid you bought at the parts house will not work if you are still using the button next to the gearshift. You will need a solenoid that requires grounding to operate. The one the auto parts store sold you requires current to operate it. I have seen many older tractors that have had a extra starter button put on them to operate such solenoids. This is dangerous, because you can start the tractor while it is still in gear. Go to a New Holland dealer or a aftermarket tractor parts dealer and get a solenoid that is designed for a 8N. Or go to a NAPA auto parts store and have them get a solenoid for a 8N. Part number cross 8N 11450
