Forn 8N starting problem

8N starter/solenoid problem

I Just purchase an 1947 8N(12V converted). I am having troouble with the solenoid/starter. Everything seemed okay this morning then it just wouldn't start. The BAT terminal on the solenoid had been loose and now seemed worse. So I assume the solenoid went bad. I went to an auto parts store and purchased another solenoid and I can't get anything out of tyhe new one, not even a click! What could be my new problem? Also how does the starter come off after you remove the mounting screws? I got the cover off but have yet to figure the rest.
