Rick, I did not go thru all the replys but if you check the instructions in the Genesse Products link, they specify a diode in the wiring. Duh!! Yes that is all that you are missing. I put an external regulator type alternator on my 720 JD 15 years ago and added a diode to the wiring to make it similiar to what the GM manuals like 65 Corvair, show for the car wiring. Always has worked just fine. Try it. George Schermerhorn
