Fella didn't know how to run it. Most big tractors now have rpm setpoint for field and road, usually just a button to swap between them once they are set. It actually is very handy for some stuff.
Old stuff is fun to run, but not all day.
The 1850 was pretty advanced for its day though. Not much changed right on up to the last whites. Very popular in potato country here.
