They cut the riser above the Blow out preventers, the diamond saw clamps to the pipe its cutting and after they had to shear it in the same place they started to cut there was not enough clear pipe left for another go with the diamond saw. The riser by itself weighs around 2 1/2 million pounds so no robot is going to push it over.
