I've rented a Thomas mini excavator made by Nagano in Japan and also used a Bobcat brand. The Nagano was head and shoulders better than the almost new Bobcat. It used variable displacement pumps and I think might have even had pilot controls. It also had independant swing for the boom in addition to the whole house swing which was real nice. The Bobcat was bigger but only used gear pumps and didn't have as smooth of controls. The foot pedal to run the independant boom swing on the Bobcat would also stick in position which was a real pain. The Bobcat only had a couple hundred hours on it too. They seem small but will do a lot of work fast. I have a hoe for the back of my Cat and although it has more digging power, I bet a mini excavator would do circles around it. Dave
