Hay Showcrop,JM,Dave 135, and Kyle. The rocks, Shale ledge on this site, was up the ditch above the trees. 19' rise on 40' run. Had to did up hill to rip it out. also ran into an old laid stone foundation further down, The trackhoe is a KUBOTA KX41 series III. And Kyle, I don't know where you live, but I bet you would have a heart attack when you see our taxes on everything we own or buy in NYS.
The pics show the foundation hole 5'x5'x 6' deep. We pour the hole rather than form a structure, and backfill around it with loose soil. (much more stable from lateral wind loading )This foundation took 6yds. The ditch is 440' long and we ran 4 strands of AWG6 stranded wire for this 2.4 KW 240V AC Turbine on a 45' hinge-up tower. A quick note to all: I have not mentioned brand names or the company that I represent. I'm just posting pics. and info on renewable energy equipment and my comittment to it. I enjoy this sight and will never abuse it for comercial gain.

That's a good sized job for the little hoe. I thought it was a little bigger than a KX 41 from the first pictures. Dave

Hay dave; After spending many hrs of stick time in CAT 225 and JD 892 this little guy is like a toy rocking horse but I expect the same performance on a bit smaller scale. I have owned it for 4 years now and it has a lot of power in a small package. Very handy and easy to transport from job to job with a PU and 7500# trailer. I have a hyd thumb and Lowe hyd auger for it also.

I've rented a Thomas mini excavator made by Nagano in Japan and also used a Bobcat brand. The Nagano was head and shoulders better than the almost new Bobcat. It used variable displacement pumps and I think might have even had pilot controls. It also had independant swing for the boom in addition to the whole house swing which was real nice. The Bobcat was bigger but only used gear pumps and didn't have as smooth of controls. The foot pedal to run the independant boom swing on the Bobcat would also stick in position which was a real pain. The Bobcat only had a couple hundred hours on it too. They seem small but will do a lot of work fast. I have a hoe for the back of my Cat and although it has more digging power, I bet a mini excavator would do circles around it. Dave

We just finished installing a 10 KW wind turbine on a 100 foot guyed lattice tower on our farm. Used screwed in anchors for the base as well as the guy wire anchors. Went very well. no digging or waiting for concrete to cure. Swede

YES IT WILL. We set up a data logger to measure wind speed for a month. A short period, but we are smart enough to realize the wind charateristics in our area, related to season of testing, once we have a 30day data base. We logged consistant winds of 20MPH on this sight 50% of the test period and gusts up to 82MPH. Also had some days when the wind didn't amount to diddly sh!t. Also analized two locations on this site, and determined that although one location was 200' closer to the connection point, production would be far better Farther away and higher up on the property. We also weigh estimated production against anual consumption and make recomendations for energy conservation also. Mannnny variables to consider when figuring payback period. You must also consider your reason for installing renewable energy equipment, FINANCIAL or ENVIROMENTAL (to each his own) You might find this strange, but most of my customers are retired, and may never see a payback in their lifetime, but they don't take the cost of living and our impact on the enviroment for granted, like todays generation does. If you are my age you can think back when!!, and if I had done this!, I would be further ahead now! In my opinion, capturing free energy and utilizing it on site without an extensive public intrastructure is "a no brainer"
