The common scam you will see here on this site and many others is reffered to as the Nigerian Scam. What will happen is they will offer to buy at full price, maybe plus money you need to pay their shipper, There will always be extra money included and you just send back the extra. Most times about the value of the item sold. You will get paid with what appears to be a cashiers check. When you wire the extra money back the cashiers check will then come back as no good. You will be out whatever you sold, the money you were "paid" and the money you sent to the buyer.
These scammers don't care about the item you are selling all they want is the money.
The times I have had this happen it is pretty easy to spot. They will say they have the money to purchase what you are selling and make comments that are general and appear as though they haven't even looked at your ad. The english will be very broken. Things like that. Simple thing to do is if it doesn't smell right it probably isn't.
BTW I have had this happen here and on ebay. Additional note with ebay. The time I had it happen he hit on Buy It Now just before the auction ended which was a jump from $600 to a BIN of $2000, no bids up to that point either. Also with ebay don't put to much faith in the feedback rating. The scammers will steel others id and use their good rating till they have to move on.
Internet is a nice way to buy and sell and even find a spouse (I have done all three, well fiancee at least) but you need to use due caution also.
