Bob, I am planning on doing this to my '50 Ford 2-ton truck, but haven't commited to it yet. I did a bit of research and it looks like you really don't want to mix the DOT-5 (silicone) with the DOT-3 brake fluid, so you would need to take the entire brake system apart and clean it all thoroughly. In addition, since water will not mix with the silicone fluid, any water will tend to sink to the lowest point in the system and pool there. If this is the wheel cylinder you have a problem. In addition, at least on my Ford, there is a material incompatibility in the brake light switch which means I will need to replace that switch occasionally. You might be better off just replacing your DOT-3 more frequently on your old cars, but if you do go with DOT-5, clean out all the old DOT-3 thoroughly first. Good luck.
