The reason they are coming as assemblies is because most mechanic DO NOT have a clue how starter, generators and alternators WORK. It is easies for them to bolt on HOPFULLY a good rebuilt unit. The ONLY problem I am seeing with that these day is the rebuilt unit are using such CHEAP parts they are almost NOT worth bolting on. I have found a starter/generator/alternator shop that will sell me part as because of a little problem I took to him, that he had never seen, He knows I know how to repair these components.
