Yes, check the fluid. It could also be the control valve that causes it. On my skid steer, they had to install an optional anti-chatter damper on the back of the lift valve. Not every machine needed it and it was covered on warranty. Sometimes with just the right amount of travel on the control valve, the boom would start to shudder and shake. The damper stops it from happening. It might chatter once but not for several seconds like it used to. It was real annoying. Dave
