yes, but so does receiving the cash... just picking. A check, if filled in correctly, Serial number, tractor, and any conditions mentioned as part of the selling agreement becomes a written contract upon cashing. i usually use a check for this reason. for partional payment upon looking at tractor. i wait until i know the check has cleared, then, when i come back to pick up the tractor, i pay the balance in cold, hard, green and that ends the deal. i would never expect a stranger to receive a personal check from a stranger for full payment. there are other ways, such as casheirs checks. also when i pay cash, which is in an envelope in the correct amount, i ask the seller to count it to make sure it is right. i think this removes any implied insult or distrust when the seller counts.
