Dean, I don't know about your tractor specifically but you do understand that there are usually 2 leavers controlling the lift. One is the normal lift lever you are using. The other would have 2 distinct positions--one for draft control and the other for position control. If the second lever is set to "position control" the lift lever will determine the height of the implement. If set to "draft control" the lift lever will determine the maximum force the tractor can exert on the blade before the hydraulics start lifting it so the tractor tires do not spin (full down on the lift control is maximum force--full up is the equilivent of so little force the implement lifts to full height with no pulling from the tractor--raised for transit). This works great with a plow which wants to dig in and will work if your blade wants to dig too, but as another fellow pointed out if you don't have down pressure on the hydraulics you can't hold the blade down even if position control setting. You must rely on the weight of the implement and the implements tendency to cut in for that. You might be confused because the Farmall row crop tractors have down pressure (I assume you have a Super A, 140 or something like that from the 20hp with mid mount blade description). Most tractors don't have down pressure. If you have down pressure on the new tractor you should be able to detrmine so by putting the blade all the way down while sitting still and see if the tractor is trying to mash it into the ground--you'll note the farmall will try. Nice thing about Farmalls.
