Gas or Diesel for the Cold?

My brothers looking to buy a utility tractor with a loader to keep up several acres in central Iowa. He's seriously considering a Deere and a Ford with gas engines and an International Diesel. He'll be using this one for snow remaval in the winter, and is concerned about the cold starts. Knowing this would it be smart to stick with the gas engines or will the diesel do just as well?
