Have talked with a major tractor manufacturer here in England as some of the electrical circuits I design to control trailed machines pull up to 70 amps. Even if a tractor has a 150 amp alternator only about 40 amps is available for ancillary use.
They tell me that 42 volt systems will be here within 2 years on their tractors. With all the electrics on their new baler they claim that an on board alternator driven from the pto shaft is another option.
I have a friend who works on Tornado fighter aircraft. With all the fly by wire systems on these airplanes 12 or 24 volts is the norm.
