Actually, having many tractors helps in the tire department. If you're halfway careful when you buy, and don't get any with less than 50% tread, chances are by spreading the work among many tractors, you'll never have to replace any tires (that's especially true for guys like us of (ahem) "mature" age. Well, OK, geezers.
But if you just have one tractor to do everything, you'll soon be looking at a grand to replace the wornout tires. "Gee, honey, the tires on that rig are looking a little peaked. I better get another tractor so I can save what tread is left."
The lesson here, of course, is that with a little creativity, you can justify most anything.

In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999.
