Sounds like a coil pack. Had one coil on an 89 buick with the 3800 engine go bad. Drove it over a hundred miles home. Time I found out it was a coil in the pack, it had arced enough to damage the module it was mounted on. Pricy fix but ran like a scared cat once I got it fixed. Another thought is just for the fun of it, make sure the plug in connector to the module is clean and tight, rough road may have loosened it some.
