Your last point is valid. There was a short blurb I guess,for lack of a better word,about that very subject in the last Hart Parr Oliver Collector magazine. About how the parent companies that toook over most of the major brands in the 70s used them as "cash cows". In other words,bled them dry on their names and reputations,used the profits to finance other branches of their corporations and never put anything back into research and development. Some of the things on the drawing board of Oliver alone would have set the tractor and equipment industries on their ears. The CVT transmission for example,was developed and patented by Oliver way back then. Everything new was just dumped and the existing product lines were used til they were obsolete.
