Had the same thing happen once in the 90's. Flew to NOLA (New Orleans) for 2 weeks of school and luggage ended up in Michigan. Instructor wasn't too impressed that I showed up in civvies on Monday morning. Had my stuff by Tuesday.
After that I always traveled with the uniform that I needed on the first day in my carry on.
