$!#!$!$ airlines (Delta)

Went and picked up the son form the air port. 185 mile round trip. He is home on leave for a few days but the first week he has recruiter duty. Well the air lines lost one of his bags, the one with all his dress uniforms in it and he HAS to have them by Monday. Once they find them and get them to Columbia MO I will have to drive that 185 mile round trip again just to get that bag and I'm then out all that gas. How can they loose something like that with only one change over from Gulf port MS to Memphis TN to Columbia MO

The airlines should deliver the bag. What branch of the service is your son in and what's his job?

He must be a young recruit just entering if he's getting the RAP duty. Not a bad deal. He gets free leave and the recruites USUALLY don't work them too hard.

My wife and I gave up on Delta about 10 years ago. We'll drive rather than fly with them after the poor service and treatment we received! There are other airlines who treat you well and we'll gladly give them our business.

There's absolutely no way I will ever fly on Delta again.

My wife and I once had a one hour layover in Cincinatti turn into a 25 hour layover. We were lied to repeatedly, put up overnight in a fleabag motel with no heat, (this was at Thanksgiving), when the flight we were supposed to leave on fell apart, we were told there was no other way we could get to Omaha until the same flight the next evening. At one point, I overheard the crew of the plane we were supposed to have left Cincinatti on joking and laughing about how mad the passengers were going to be when they found out the flight wouldn't leave.

A lady in a wheelchair was simply abandoned at the boarding gate by Delta personnel.

Then, when we finally did get to Omaha, our luggage had beat us there. How? I've been around aviaton most of my adult life. The truth I can handle. I will not tolerate being lied to.

I could go on and on. This is only part of the ordeal. When we finally got home, I wrote a three page letter describing the debacle and sent copies to Delta, to the Cincinatti Airport Authority, the Cincinatti newspapers, and the Cincinatti Chamber of Commerce.

My wife and I were ultimately each given a voucher for $100 to be applied to a future flight within a year. Big deal. The vouchers had to be presented at a Delta ticket counter to be redeemed. I can go online and get a better price on tickets than Delta's counter price minus $100.

Didn't mean to get so wordy, but it's been five years and I still come unglued when I think about how we were mistreated by Delta.

I used to fly Delta and never received bad service in 2 years of flying with them every week. I guess I am very lucky, that was in the late 90's.

I agree that ALL passengers on flights are treated like 2nd class citizens, or basically like cattle. Northworst airlines is real bad. I told the wife that I will never fly unless absolutely told to by my boss or something. I would also rather drive then fly in most cases.

Delta should deliver the bag personally to your home. Like the other have said.

Old, Don't worry about it. If your son shows up and tells the recruiter what happened...they will compensate for it. I've had people go thru inprocessing due to the fact that Inchon airport had no idea where the luggage was. If the luggage doesn't arrive before Monday morning, I would suggest that he wear smart casual attire and report in. Once there he can explain to the recruiter what happened. Also it's possible that the recruiter can assist in retrieving the luggage (a MSgt can accomplish even, with the civilians, when they are screaming at them, even over the phone, don't ask me how I know this) and help get it returned.

NOTE: If for whatever reason, you have to go to retrieve the luggage. BE SURE TO WRITE DOWN MILEAGE AND KEEP YOUR RECIEPTS. Your son may be able to get re-imbursed when filing with the airline.

If you think Delta Airlines stinks. Don't fly with United Airlines. I flew from Seoul, thru Tokyo Japan, to Los Angeles, to Denver, to El Paso last November when I PCS'd out of Osan to Holloman. If I ever have to fly United again. If it's domestic, I'll go to the car rental place. NEVER AGAIN!

If you have to fly to Asia, may I suggest KAL (Korean Air Lines). Not only do they have lovely Asian Stewardesses, they wait on you hand and foot thru out the flight. If this is how the coach/economy section is I can't imagine how the business/first class section is taken care of.

They will deliver the luggage to your door. You did file a lost luggage report so they have your address, right??? They will have a courier service deliver it. Maybe call and talk to a supervisor and make sure they understand that this is a military matter. Hopefully you won't be talking to some libtard peace activist.

Had the same thing happen once in the 90's. Flew to NOLA (New Orleans) for 2 weeks of school and luggage ended up in Michigan. Instructor wasn't too impressed that I showed up in civvies on Monday morning. Had my stuff by Tuesday.

After that I always traveled with the uniform that I needed on the first day in my carry on.

First of all, what does this have to do with tractors?? Why don't you chat with your breakfast buddies somewhere else. You really need to get a life.

Please list those other "better" airlines. Preferably in alphabetical order. They are all struggling to give even mediocre service. Unfortunately, saying you will never fly with a certain airline again is a bit of an empty threat. I said I would never ride in another Ford once, but found out it beats staying home (but not by much).

Glad you are so "concerned" about your son reporting for his duty. I would be "concerned" if you weren't ""concerned", after all he is serving Our Country. Some arent "concerned" if it doesen't fit their concerns. Tell him thanks for serving, personally I am "concerned" for all our service members. gobble

Old, go to Delta.com, site maps, follow the prompts I have had this to happen, they will bring it to your door Just don't let this ruen your visit
good luck
Ron

They are probably too busy transfering jobs to india, by may they will have moved most of the office jobs from Eagan and atlanta to india, the word is they are just getting started, so expect things to get worse with delta.

What was he wearing when he arrived? Fatigues? Civvies?
He should have been wearing the uniform he needed on Monday! Or had it in his carry on. Lesson learned the hard way.

I"ve spent the last few weeks back in the baggage area of the Charlotte airport installing new baggage conveyors for one of the major airlines. Seeing what I have seen when it comes to the baggage it suprises me that any of the bags ever actually get to where they are supposed to be going. By that I mean I"ve seen the same bags go round and round on the on the conveyors ((behind the wall where the public is not allowed)) all night long or simple sit there on a dead conveyor from the time the airline shuts down operations for the night until they pick things back up the next morning. Thursday night there was a stack of bags stacked as high as my head and close to 50 feet long that were just sitting there all night, noit even on a conveyor.....where they were going or what the deal with them was I haven"t a clue.

The amazing thing is to see what all comes off of the bags. If you think a lock actually is doing your bag any good, think again, as the most common item to see lying around under the conveyors is those little locks and the keys that go with them, along with foreign coins, luggage wheels and handles, ID tags, etc, etc, etc.

It"s an amazing operation but ultimately I don"t see how they keep up with even half of what they do........

I have had several layovers in Memphis. From what I seen round that airport it's a wander I didn't loose my carry on. At one time if they lost your bag it was their puppy to get it to you. I had family fly into Evansville a few years ago, lost a bag, dude from the airport was b****'n bout our gravel road get'n his van dirty. My mom's cousin looked at him and said "least you have clean underwear *** hole!"

Old, I'm sorry about your sons lost luggage. I work for Delta and have often wondered how any luggage makes it to the right place. I work on the planes and ensure that they are fixed and maintained properly. A DC9 is the equivalent to JD 730. Slow, old, and simple but properly maintained will run forever. I hope that his luggage is found and they deliver it to you. Sorry for the inconvience

Old, Best Of Luck to your son. Hope his time (whether an enlistment or a life time career) turns out well for him. Hope he enjoys his (well deserved) time off. RAP (Recruiter Assistance Program) is non-chargeable leave. Most of the kids I've talked with got a lot of time off. Basicly, he's at home, meets with the recruiter, talks with people that are getting ready to come in the service, and spends a lot of time visiting with family and freinds. My personal opinion (and we all know everyone has one) instead of recruits doing this right after boot camp or tech school...should wait and have them do this after about six months at thier first duty station. This would give them a better/broader scope and larger wealth of knowlege to talk with the newbies.

I'm Air Force, so I can't speak for the Navy. But if you were to tour a Naval Installation...would be very surprised about the changes in the quality of life. I'm still active duty, and in my 24 plus years it's WOW. The young Airmen have so many more amenities and opportunities. Not Saying It's A Bad Thing. It's nice, and the off-duty educational opportunities (once they complete thier upgrade training requirements) is great.

Let me know how things turn out with the baggage and the recruiter. While in the shirt office (was an assistant First Sergeant about ten months at a prior base) I spoke with a few of the recruiters trying to get the specifics and etc straight due to some of the Airman not getting the proper paperwork completed in order to do the RAP Duty and they were about to get charged for leave time.

(quoted from post at 08:45:59 03/14/10) Yep I do worry a bit about his bag but I know what happens if he reports in out of uniform since I spent 6 years in the Navy

Times have changed a little since then I guess............. I don't even think they have sails on the ships any more

Sure he'll be fine...

Enjoy the visit.
