Some friends of mine got busted last year- DOT came to their shop and checked a parked semi, only used to pull race cars on weekends. Shop owner drove up with his pickup while they were there- he got busted too. Initial fine was $10,000 EACH, but through negotiations, they ended up paying $5000 total. Even one tank of dyed fuel will be detectable for 8-10 fillups after. Not worth the risk.
