Gas prices stimulating the economy again

Well filled up today and gas has jumped in price by a dime in the last 24 hours. One heck of way to stimulate the economy. Price per gal. is $2.559 which I know if probably low compared to some places sop what is it in your neck of the woods??

Old,
Just got 20 gallon tonight and i'm thinkin it was close to $2.80 for low grade. What i cant figure out is why diesel is still higher than gas. Isn't Diesel the byproduct from gas. Anyone got an answer?
Toby.

I run farm fuel in my diesel truck and its 40 cents cheaper than road fuel but the fuel is still high priced on the farm. Not every barrel of crude oil can be converted into diesel or gasoline. It seperates out into different substances. I think gas around my place in sw wisconsin is around 2.55 per gallon.
Maybe thos Amish have it all figured out. LOL

diesel is priced higher because there is more demand for it- not in the U.S., but worldwide. It takes a few less steps to "crack" diesel from crude than it does gasoline, but diesel use worldwide is greater.
Supply and demand

Old, in NY its $2.79 for low grade, up 4 cents from last week. I think diesel was $3.05 $2.99 if yoy pay cash J

Off road fuel in a road truck?? Or are you saying that truck is farm only?? I know here in Missouri not long ago a guy lost his whole fleet of trucks because of off road fuel found in his trucks, here it is dyed red. Not sure what your laws are and please no name calling or fights there is no reason for that

you brag about running farm fuel in your truck. so when you get caught and get fined 10,000.00 don't come back and cry. you can not run farm fuel in any truck that runs any roads.

$2.659, tonite at one of the cheaper stations in the area. Was higher other places around the county. And it was higher end of last week.

Diesel is not a "byproduct" of gas. Diesel is higher than gas because buyers are willing to pay more for it. And one reason they're willing to pay more is it has more Btus per gallon than gasoline. Gasoline contains about 125,000 Btu/gal, while diesel has around 139,000. If you take the heat value into consideration, there's really not much of a price spread.

I'm sure if you were a laid-off oilfield worker, you'd like to see gas prices go up another buck. Higher fuel prices means more demand. More demand means the economy is moving.

I am not bragging. All the farmers do it. I have no reason to brag. All I was saying is that farm fuel is 40-50 cents cheaper than road fuel and it is still to expensive. I remember buying diesel on the farm for $1 or less. I run farm fuel in all my semis but the DOT leaves us alone for the most part. Sorry for causing an uproar.
I know that even a truck that never leaves the farm cant run off road diesel but everyone in my county does it and no one gets busted for it.

Have a friend who works at the newest Esso refinery here in Ontario. They've been told that the gasoline line may be shut down unless sales pick up. The refinery has been reconfigured recently so any one line (gas, diesel, etc.) can be isolated from the rest and shut down. Tanker traffic past our farm really slowed down from just before Christmas till the last week or so.

No,not all farmers do it.In fact hardly any do it in my area.Several have gotten caught and the fine was very large. Any time you sell cattle at a sale barn in my area you can figure the DOT will be possibly be there checking fuel.

Why should you get to use our roads and not pay for them.

Nancy, think again thats no "rip off" its $3.05 here in NY, would you rather pay that. You got it good with Bush and his state. $2.56 give that to me up here.

There is limited refining capacity for diesel fuel in the US, when the demand went up several years back refiners turned to road fuel and started importing a large percentage of heating oil. In 2009, diesel price dipped below gas prices for the first time in years due to lowered demand.

You certainly are in a unique area, it isn't done around here. In the distant past several have got caught with the resulting horror stories lingering. They still do random checking. Could believe someone might be willing to chance it with a pickup, but definitely not with a semi. The Feds need to make a surprise visit to your area and help fund the national debt.

I pay property taxes to the center of the road.
I dont complain about the roads at all. I dont use that much fuel in a year to amount to alot of road tax.

This whole economic mess was started when gas hit $4 per gallon. People spent all their money on gas and didn't have money to buy the junk they usually bought. They found out they could get by easily enough without the junk, and they haven't forgotten that.

That's the story behind our improved savings rate and personal debt reduction. Look under Bureau of Economic Analysis for the savings rate chart - the change starting in early 2009 is rather abrupt. You have to go to the Federal Reserve Consumer Debt Chart G-19 to find the change in debt.

Too many people made their livings making and selling junk, and they are facing hard times.

I don't chance running dyed fuel in my pickup, thats the first thing they check when you get stopped by dot, neighbors got caught and it cost them plenty. You don't charge me to use your road, thats pretty generous of you! If I fuel up in your state I am paying road tax to use that road. As others said I wouldn't mentioning running dyed fuel otr.

in Canada we can run farm fuel in our trucks or any vechicle we can justify as for farm use and register as farm vech and run farm plates on it.

Well if just goes to show you the rich crooks just keep getting richer and the poor folks keep getting the shaft and for the most part we can not do any thing about it

Some friends of mine got busted last year- DOT came to their shop and checked a parked semi, only used to pull race cars on weekends. Shop owner drove up with his pickup while they were there- he got busted too. Initial fine was $10,000 EACH, but through negotiations, they ended up paying $5000 total. Even one tank of dyed fuel will be detectable for 8-10 fillups after. Not worth the risk.

My oil dealer told me there are IRS agent stopping fuel trucks and ckecking for red dye.He quit the business when fuel oil went to 4.60 a gallon here. This is a very rural area.He said he was stopped often.

The "Demand" is not here. "Demand is up in China and India. Demand is way down in the US. Like I said before, I saw two refinerys shutdown in my area within a couple of months of each other. Our dollar is colapsing, making oil even MORE expensive. Also, if you believe our economy is on the rise, I got some beautiful oceanside property for sale in W. Virginia.
Jack

Regular gas $2.89, Diesel $2.99. We're always higher than most, prolly because we have several huge refineries here.

Try that line of bull on someone else.I own several miles of road frontage farm ground.Thats real noble of you to let people use your road. The DOT isnt going to care how much property you own or where its at.You will get caught someday.

My farm licsensed diesel dually has never had farm diesel in it.A guy I know just got caught running farm diesel and the fine was $3,000.You will get checked quite often in my area.
