In my youth in the Army I worked 7 day on 72 hours off going to the next shift upon returning to work. Getting off at seven AM the crew ate our morning meal and went to bed. Same for mid nights we ate and went to bed. Best was off at 1500 and eating at the NCO club and the 15 cent german beers and dime slots. The best maybe was new years day shift started at 0700 hours. Colder than H in Germany with snow no bus on that day walked really slow to work. Got to work the sargent took one look at me and said my name and stated had I ate? No sargent then go back to the compound and eat. I walked really slow back in the cold and ate and returned very slow in the cold and hung out the rest of the day. DC was closed that day and messages only can in during the afternoon shift from DC.
I now use what is called white noise. No coke or coffee a long time before trying to sleep in the day time. Each to his own.
I gave up that four letter word just over 6 years back. Now the dog wakes up to go out side side.
News years eve we showed at the master sargent house. He had asked us to come over sometime. We are all stiff and not from the cold. He feed us and we went back to the rack. Had some nice greek food. At that time a mark was 25 cents.
