Not many lower paying jobs have a negotiable wage. $12/hr. up from $8/hr. is a 50% increase. How many people get a 50% raise, especially when they just start? If this person feels they are worth more than the job pays, they shouldn't even apply. A lot of employers will increase the wage after the probation period though, usually 3 month's. With so many people looking for work why would the employer want to pay someone more, if there's a lot of people that are just happy to get a job? Negotiating salary usually happens with more experienced employee's who bring more skills or a customer base to the employer. Some employer's are really cheap and some employee's figure they are worth a lot more. There's a lot of young people that figure they should get paid $20/hr. or more and they have no experience at all. A lot university grads have spent all their life in school and figure they should make the big bucks because of their years in school. For a few it's possible but for most of them, they are referred to as over educated idiots because they have no practical experience. Dave
